Washington United States City sights

City sights

City of Washington is one of the richest world-wide places, both in terms of business and cultural significance. So, this very place will be an ideal outing for having an enchanting sightseeing tour through city's most refined monuments and memorials. Among the last ones are featured:

National Mall is a 146-acre park, housing a decorous number of the most known Washington's places of interest: the United States Capitol building, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and Jefferson Memorial.

The United States Capitol is a seat of the United States Congress, which is the legislative branch of the United States Federal Government. The plan of the building is a merit of William Thornton, later being modified by Benjamin Latrobe, and then Charles Bulfinch. The design of the Capitol is pumped with a central dome above a rotunda and two wings, each functioning for one of the Congress chambers: the north wing is for the Senate chamber, and the south one - for House of Representatives. This magnificent edifice is accomplished in the most majestic neoclassical architectural style.

The Lincoln Memorial is a plush shrine, erected to honour 16Th President of the United States of America, Abraham Lincoln. The structure of the building resembles a Classical temple.

The Washington Monument is a white 555 feet high obelisk, finished in 1885, and nowadays it is one of the tallest memorials all over the world.

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is a presidential memorial, dedicated to the third president of the United States of America, Thomas Jefferson. The design of the neoclassical building belongs to John Russell Pope, and its construction is a desert of John McShain. 1943 is a commemorating year of its completing. This architectural miracle consists of a circular colonnade of columns, a portico, marble steps, and a dome, what composes all together an impressive fusion.

The White House is, probably, the most known building all over the world, and its home is Washington, of course. It is a traditional home to American presidents, starting with John Adams. It is the centre of the executive branch of the government, locating in a beautiful glaringly white edifice, ornamented with columns.

Korean War Veterans Memorial is a symmetry to the Vietnam Veterans, shaping as a pass, where you may walk, imbuing with a spirit of antiquity.

The Pentagon is another stunning building, making Washington DC so popular in the world, especially after the September 11Th. The Pentagon is a seat of the United States Department of Defence and a symbol of the United States military. It was designed by George Edwin Bergstrom, and constructed by John McSpain, what ended up with its opening on January 15, 1943.

The Pentagon is the highest and the largest office building all over the world, being apt to house over 23,000 militaries and about 3,000 employers. It consists of five floors, five sides, and five ring corridors per floor.
