Washington State University is one of the 200 United States universities, being not only an eminent teaching establishment but also conducting a rich intensive research program. It disposes of more than 200 various fields of education, where over 23,000 of students obtain the first-class knowledge.

Washington State University is a public one, directed by the state of Washington, but interior governing body is a Board of Regents. The number of regents is ten and each of them is appointed by a governor. One of the honorable regents is a student, elected by student collegiums and being their representative for a term of one year.

Nowadays the post of a students' regent occupies Kyle Smith, and other current regents are: Kenneth Alhadeff, Elizabeth Cowles, Ted Baseler, Francois Forgette, Laura Jennings, Joe King, Chris Marr, Connie Niva, and V. Rafael Stone.

The University possesses its legislative power - administration, including the President of the Washington State University, Lane Rawlins; the Provost, Robert C. Bates; and the President of the WSU Foundation (a fundraising foundation for the university), Len Jessup.

There is a Faculty Senate also, which consists of more than 2,200 faculty members, and all the important decisions, concerning the academic activity, should be indispensably confirmed by the Senate. All the academic departments send one representative from their academy to be a member of the Senate.

The student have their own governing bodies, representing by the Associated Students of Washington State University and the Graduate and Professional Students' Association.

The University concludes in itself academic colleges, undergraduate study program, and professional schools. There are nine academic colleges: Business, Education, Liberal Arts, Pharmacy, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, and Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences.

The professional schools, existing within the Washington State University are: the School of Architecture and Construction Management, the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication, and the School of Economic Sciences.

A lot of the students of the Washington State University are not the residents of the city, but the governors of the university did all their best in order to provide them with all the facilities and amenities, including accommodation deals. So, the university disposes of the Pullman campus, located in the Palouse region, what is approximately seven miles from the Washingtn-Idaho border.

There are several buildings, serving the Pullman campus, all being constructed of red brick and each having its own name: Terell Library, the Samuel H. Smith centre for Undergraduate Education, the Mall (the whole name is the Glenn Terell Friendsihip Mall), Martin Stadium (the football property), and its three oldest buildings: Stevens Hall, Bryan Hall, and Thomson Hall.

The sports and multiple recreational activities are widely practiced among the students, and the Washington University's is proud of its 160,000-square-foot Student Recreation Centre, which is full of sporting venues: four basketball courts, four racquetball courts, swimming pool, roller hockey rink, two volleyball courts, exercise instruction rooms, cardio equipment, weight machines, massage therapists, outdoor courts, etc.
