Washington metro

The Washington DC Metropolitan system is the rapid transit system of Washington DC, consisting of five lines, 83 stations, and about 103 miles of track. The system was completed on January 13, 2001. It is operated by Washington Metropolitan Area Trasit Authority (named also WMATA).

Red Line was opened in 1976 and it contains 27 stations, Orange Line's opening limps on 1978, consisting of 26 stations. Line Blue numbers 27 stations, which commenced their work in 1977.

Yellow Line started its work in 1983, counting 17 stations, and the last one is Green Line with its 21 stations, which began operating in 1991. There is a plan of one more line as well. And it will be a Silver Line.

The system is the second busiest system in the United States of America, exceeded by a New York one only. About 700,000 trips are usually accomplished during the day.
